A Guidebook to the Covered Bridges of New Brunswick Volume 3 – YORK, CARLETON, VICTORIA, and MADAWASKA COUNTIES
Nine covered bridges are scattered across the four northwest counties of the province, starting from Fredericton all the way to Edmundston in the north. Directions to the covered bridges in each county are presented as single ‘Day Trips’.
Chapter 1 – York County has two covered bridges. The directions to the Nackawic Siding Covered Bridge starts at Exit 231 from Route 2 north-west of Fredericton. Arriving on Route 2 from Fredericton the directions for the Benton Covered Bridge starts at Exit 212. Arriving on Route 2 from the region of Woodstock the directions start at Exit 200. Both directions converge at the intersection of Route 165 and the Greenlaw Road.
Chapter 2 – Carleton County. Directions to the three covered bridges of Carleton County starts in the Town of Hartland where you will find the Hartland Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the world. Though there are a number of ways to get to Hartland the guide starts at Exit 172 on the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 2). From Hartland the Day Trip will carry you to the Ellis Covered Bridge and the unique Florenceville Bridge with one covered span and four steel trusses.
Chapter 3 – Victoria County. The directions to this lone covered bridge begins at Exit 115 on Route 2, carries on through Perth-Andover from where you will travel about 18 km across country to the Tomlinson Mill Covered Bridge
Chapter 4 – Madawaska County. The Baker Brook, Boniface and Quisibis Covered Bridges are the three covered bridges still standing in Madawaska County. Departure for all three will be from border city of Edmundston.
Alternately, In most cases, direct travel to a single covered bridge starts at an exit from the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 2).
The guide includes information on each bridge, full colour photos and maps as well as a list of interesting side-trips along the way.
